What Is WRAP?

WRAP's history

Waste Reduction Art Project (WRAP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing sustainable art education, environmental awareness, and community engagement.

Through innovative programs, WRAP transforms recycled materials into creative experiences that inspire individuals, schools, and organizations to adopt more sustainable ways of living.

Our Vision

To benefit the planet through recycled art and education by connecting communities and increasing awareness of environmental preservation.

WRAP develops unique art programs that encourage responsible consumption, creative reuse, and measurable impact across corporations, schools, and local communities.

Our Story

WRAP was founded by Yana Maor Nigen in February 2020, inspired by a simple observation. Recycling had become routine, but often disconnected from deeper awareness and intentional living.

What began as a positive habit was turning into a cycle of consumption followed by disposal.

This sparked a new question. What if we reimagined waste instead of simply managing it?

From this idea, WRAP was created to shift the conversation from recycling to creative reuse and sustainable living.

By transforming materials such as paper, plastic, rubber, metal, and wood into art, WRAP encourages individuals to think more thoughtfully about what they consume and how they use resources.

Our Community

WRAP brings together a global network of artists, educators, and organizations who are redefining sustainability through creativity.

Collaborators include renowned artists such as Derek Gores, known for his mixed-media collage work, as well as Leo Sewell and John Sabraw, whose practices focus on transforming reclaimed and environmentally impacted materials into powerful works of art.

Together, this community creates engaging projects that promote environmental responsibility through artistic expression.

Our Mission Today

Supported by artists, partners, and communities worldwide, WRAP continues to expand access to sustainable art programs that inspire creativity, encourage responsible living, and support environmental preservation.

People and culture

WRAP continues to grow through a network of artists, educators, partner organizations, and volunteers across the world.

Together, we design and deliver sustainable art education programs, lead community art initiatives, and create immersive experiences that make environmental awareness engaging, creative, and accessible.
